Hi Cale,

I have read some of the articles, blog posts, forum articles on Spoke funds. Its an interesting concept and i thank you for educating others about it.

I wanted to ask you about your thoughts on Kaching and Covestor. They seem to have a similar mode
1) model manager funds a real money account where he makes investments ( hub)
2) others can copy the model into their own accounts ( spokes).

The difference is that the Covestor is the RIA in this case. Covestors takes RIA and individuals as managers. Kaching only takes RIAs.

I dont think there is a min requirement other than 10k So i could have a 10k account at IB and be the hub for the spoke and hub model....

I am not an RIA yet but considering taking the exam when i take 10 days off from work in Xmas. I also work full time in the IT industry and cannot afford to quit my job yet. I am not sure how seriously will people take a non - full time person with no public track record as either a model manager on Covestor or an RIA running a spoke hub fund.

thanks
Adib

Adib,

If your interested in Kaching, let's talk offline (I've been working with them for awhile now and should be able to address all of your questions and/or concerns pretty quickly). Anyhow, shoot me an email when you get the chance and we can set up a time to discuss.

Best,

Ryan

Also, FWIW, here are a few slides from the workshop last spring in which I shared some brief thoughts on Folio, Interactive Brokers as well as KaChing and Covestor.

It's great that there are multiple options for custodians out there, and I think KaChing and Covestor are on to something. I had opened accounts at both firms (as well as the now defunct Vestopia) in order to kick the tires and, potentially, consider moving assets from Folio to them. In the end, I didn't, as per those slides. But that's probably more a compliment to Folio than a knock against either other company.

Keep in mind, too, that those slides were from six months ago. Both KaChing and Covestor have since made some tweaks to their technology and their strategies. So, I'd completely defer to Ryan on KaChing at this point as he's been using them quite successfully.

I'll have more to say on the subject of custodians soon, in the ebook and the blog. So fire away with questions, eh?
